Know What Type of  Vehicle You Need Before Renting an RV

renting an rvThere are many different types of RVs available on the RV Rental market, so it is extremely important that you do a little research before you start the process of renting an RV.  Some things to keep in mind are your overall budget which will determine in large part what type of RV Rental you will be able to afford, the level of comfort and amenities you desire, and where you plan on traveling.

Class C RVs are the most popular and range from 22-31 feet long.  The Class C comes with a loft over the driver’s cab with a double-bed and sleeps anywhere from 6-10 people.  Another option is the Class A which are much bigger than Class C, typically 28-45 feet long with amenities like sofas, dining areas, multiple slide-outs, HDTVs, dishwashers, and washer/dryers.

Shopping for the Right RV Rental Company

Shopping for the best deal always involves comparing pricing of competing businesses and this is no different when it comes to renting an RV.  When you are comparing prices offered by different RV rental companies  , be sure to make note of the daily, weekly, and monthly pricing, what is included in the price, and the pickup and drop-off locations.

Make Campground Reservations Early

You will want to reserve a campground or RV Park space at the same time you book your RV rental.  The reasons are much the same as reserving an RV except you typically won’t get a discount for making your reservation ahead of time.

Reserve Your RV Rental Early

If you plan on traveling during the peak of travel season in the summer months, vehicles are booked very quickly and if you delay too long, you may find it difficult to locate the correct rental.  The sooner you book your rental, the better pricing you can get for your RV rental since many RV rental companies offer discounts for booking early.   As soon as you have decided on what RV you’d like to rent, reserve it so you can be sure that you get the best vehicle available for your planned trip.

Know Your Insurance Options

Insurance for your RV rental is requires and it is a good idea to research your options before you go shopping.  The RV rental company will explain your options however you will want to call your own insurance agent and get a quote from them first.

Educate Yourself About Operating Your RV

Most reputable RV rental companies will offer training or an orientation of your particular RV’s operating features.  Before heading out on the highway, take your RV to an out of the way location with plenty of space and practice driving, backing up and parking your RV.  Pay particular attention to distributing the weight of your belongings properly to avoid a dangerously unstable vehicle. Its also a good idea to double check to make sure the RV’s safety features are in proper working order.

As a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), parents need to be informed how and when to use child restraint systems (car seats) and specifically in RV’s.
